Collecting Beatles Memorabilia

Welcome To Rare Antiques Collectibles and Memorabilia.

Picture yourself in a boat on a river, with tangerine trees and marmalade skies.
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly the girl with kaleidoscope eyes.

I bet you catch yourself singing that magical lyrics of the Beatles. Specifically, the Lennon-McCartney songwriting tandem is just pure genius.
In 1964 The Beatles simultaneously had the number 1, 2 ,3, 4 and 6 hit songs in the Top 100 list. It's just amazing phenomenon isn't it? No band in the U.K. or anywhere else in the world had done that.

Today, and in fact, even after the group disbanded and stopped touring, The Beatles sold over one billion units both solo records and albums. The widespread acceptance and popularity of their music is just astounding. Their musical influence extended into the social and cultural revolutions. The Beatles expressed the zeitgeist of the sixties.

You may want to start collecting their records 45s or albums, picture sleeves, autographs, toys and whole other Beatles memorabilia. One 45 record of the very same song may have different labels such as Decca, Swan, Vj, Tollie, Capitol, RCA, Parlophone etc. There was such a huge demand at that time they had to release records very fast and in large quantities, and they did it by producing in different record companies.

Interesting items that avid Beatles collectors wish would be up for auction:

1. The 78 record of the songs That'll be the day/ Inspite of all the danger, written by Paul and George in 1958 by The Quarrymen. Now valued at $170,000 +.

2. John Lennon's Rickenbacker.

3. Sgt. Pepper suits.

These items belong and still own by The Beatles respective families.

Beatles collectors are not much driven solely for investment, because obviously the prices of these pieces can be very volatile. High priced one week, and down on the floor the next.
What drives these collectors are the passion and thrill of ownership because a very ordinary thing can turn into something magical just by the powerfully strong association with The Beatles.

Collecting Plates

Welcome to Rare Antiques Collectibles Memorabilia.

Collecting plates are more popular than any other pieces of a dinner set because it is easy to display. you just hang it on the wall or put it on the shelf just like a picture.

In the middle of the nineteenth century many british firms were manufacturing china ware. dinner sets that composed of a hundred pieces. a lot of thses sets were broken up thus plates of these sets were mostly collected, unlike cups or tureen dishes.

Many of these plates from broken collections were extremely fine and became more and more scarce. surely plates from these broken sets will appreciate in value.

Another popular item is the green-glaze ware.this is earthen ware in the form of leaves or embossed on the surface. i think one popular example of this is the recently reported majolica plates that were auction at estimated $75 to $250 in retail at an antique shop.Majolica plates are best known for its transparent glaze, limited color palette and most of its designs are ferns, leaves and butterflies .

Or you can decide to collect perforated plates. these have perforated pattern punched out around the rim. many were produced as souvenirs or cake dishes.

You might start browsing around thrift stores, who knows you might discover thrash or hopefully treasure.

Ephemera

Welcome to Rare Antiques Collectibles and Memorabilia.

The word ephemera is a collector's jargon covers a wide range of subject matter including items that never meant to be collected in the first place. Here are the basic examples:

Bills- an invoice or statement of charges.from an aesthetic point of view, bill headings can be very attractive.

In the early 1900's bill headings were considered exotic, showing steel engravings combined with copperplate handwriting.

Virtually every businessman or tradesman in those days had an engraving of some sort for his trade on his bill headings. very early bills are mostly handwritten. one , in the british museum, details the payment for workers on one of the pyramids.

Apart from the embellishments, such bills are interesting is that it can give you the idea into the costs and services in different parts of the world.

Calendars-the collection of calendars reached its popularity beginning with marilyn monroe sprawled in red satin in the 1950's. different types of calendars like circular dials, calendar medallions or calendars on a glazed ceramic plates are also collected.

Menus- in similar ways to bills and invoices. They tell us what people ate and what it cost them and it was quite conveniently dated.

Menus from the last century were interesting because in the background they embellished it with topical compositions like in the times of war, it was common that menu headings pictured battle scenes.

Other ephemera items are travel, sports, concert tickets. and of course posters...such as shown here. Its a cloth poster of an early airline ad.
